Webinar: Dreaming Peer Support Futures: Scenario Planning Workshop

  • February 27, 2024

  • 11 am-1 pm

  • Online

This session is an interactive workshop drawing on futures studies methods to identify and describe possible peer support futures, as well as the changes necessary for them to become reality. This workshop will include three brainstorming sessions which will take place in breakout rooms. After each breakout group, participants will be invited to share their discussion with the larger group. Participants will then have the choice to re-join their old group for the next brainstorming session, or move to a different group if that group’s topic interests them more. Participants will be encouraged to write down their ideas on a collaborative google doc, so that they can be referred back to later. My hope is to summarize some of our discussions and visions of the future by compiling them into a blog post at a later date. The goals of this workshop are to: · Identify and describe a variety of possible futures for the field of peer support (scenario planning) · Identify the changes that would be necessary for these futures to become a reality (backcasting) · Encourage an attention towards futures thinking within the peer support sector · Provide participants with hope for alternative futures, and ideas on how they can help make them a reality

Presenter: Calvin Prowse (they/them) is a peer support trainer, dreamer, researcher, creative, and PeerWorks board member based in Hamilton, Ontario. They are a recent graduate of the Critical Disability Studies MA program at York University, where their research focused on (re)imagining the possible futures of peer support.
